Recertification Timing

You are required to renew your CCDM certification every three years and the renewal date is based on the date that the certification exam was originally passed. Every three years following that date you are required to either collect sufficient approved continuing education units (CEUs) or to retake the exam.

Applicable units toward recertification are those taken after the day and month of your original successful exam completion and before the day and month of your original successful exam completion three years later.

For example, if you passed the exam on January 1st, 2016, you would need to recertify by January 1st, 2019 and again by January 1st, 2022.

Any education programs you attended that provide acceptable CEUs between January 2nd, 2016 and January 1st 2019 could be used for your recertification on January 1st, 2016.

Similarly, programs attended with acceptable CEUs taken from January 1st, 2016 through January 1st, 2019 could be used for the next recertification.

CEUs cannot be carried over from one recertification period to the next. Using the above example, if you attended programs between January 2nd, 2016 and January 1st, 2019, and earned a total of 3.0 IACET CEUs, you would have enough CEUs to recertify on January 1st 2019 but the excess CEUs cannot be used toward your next recertification in 2022.

Additionally, the date of your application or confirmation of recertification does not affect the date of your recertification. You may apply anytime after you collect enough CEUs or are prepared to retake the exam. Using the above example, you could recertify in February 15, 2018. Your next certification period would still begin on January 1st,  2019. Any CEUs taken between February 15, 2018 and January 1st, 2019 could not be used for the period following January 1st, 2019.

Similarly, if you needed an extension to complete the recertification process, your recertification, when achieved, would still be based on your initial certification date. Any additional CEUs taken to complete the recertification process could not then be used again for the following recertification.

  • January 1st, 2016 –
    January 1st, 2019

CEus taken in this period can only be used to recertify from 01/02/2016 to 01/01/2019

  • January 1st, 2019 –
    January 1st, 2022

CEus taken in this period can only be used to recertify from 01/02/2019 to 01/01/2022

  • January 1st, 2022 –
    January 1st, 2025

CEus taken in this period can only be used to recertify from 01/02/2022 to 01/01/2025
