2019 Annual Achievements

Society for Clinical Data Management (SCDM) > 2019 Annual Achievements

Linda King
SCDM 2019 Chair

Our organization is founded on the efforts of volunteers and your participation breathes life into SCDM as a society. All of our activities depend on your contribution, and we are sincerely thankful to you.

As our 25th anniversary year draws to an end, it is a great time to celebrate our accomplishments and look forward to 2020 and beyond!

We started 2019 off with defining a new vision and mission to boldly lead and provide direction for the Society as the discipline continues to evolve. Here are just some of our achievements from a very busy and successful 2019 – the 25th anniversary year for SCDM:

  • We have invested in and launched two brand new interactive, state of the art platforms this year: one for delivery of education and the other for collaborating as a global community.
  • Giving you more flexibility in education, we have our first on demand, on-line course in mobile health while also maintaining our established webinar and instructor led on-line courses.
  • Keeping up with changing best practices and a focus on an evidenced-based approach, we have begun a large initiative to update the GCDMP chapters with multiple chapters out for public comment this year. As this year ends, we already have several updates  released.
  • Also in alignment with the GCDMP updates, the new beta certification exam is ready and receiving its first applications!
  • The Innovation Committee released a reflection paper on the Evolution of Clinical Data Management to Clinical Data Science -this has already proven to be a must read and will guide for SCDM for the years to come!
  • The launch of the Innovation Committee’s SCDM eSource Implementation Consortium in June is key in expanding our thought leadership in this future key data source space.
  • Our global community engagement is strong. We have enjoyed a very successful inaugural 3-day conference in Europe, 4 India events (3 single day events and 1 multi-day Annual Conference) which are growing year-on-year, an exciting China annual conference with great participation and last but not least a highly-successful Leadership Forum and Annual Conference in Baltimore where 876 people attended – almost beating our record attendance! We have accomplished a great deal in 2019 but have still more to do in 2020! We need our volunteers and their expertise now more than ever as we lead our industry in evolving from clinical data management to clinical data science.

We have accomplished a great deal in 2019 but have more to do in 2020! We need our volunteers and their expertise now more than ever in this evolution from clinical data management to clinical data science. Working together, we can achieve our vision and mission…

SCDM Vision (our aspirational view of the Society): Leading innovative clinical data science to advance global health research and development

SCDM Mission (what we do): Connect and inspire professionals managing global health data with global education, certification and advocacy.

Finally, many thanks to everyone for all of your support and enthusiasm in making this 25th anniversary year a great one. I am so appreciative and honored to have been your Chair this year and look forward to supporting the Board and the Society in 2020 as Past Chair. I’m very proud to be a part of such a great Society!

2019 Publications

We published 4 great editions  of  Data  Basics this year – you can check out the Fall issue by clicking here! This was a special edition to celebrate the 25 years of SCDM and it is something we are particularly proud of. You will find in it previously published articles that are still timely and valuable today.

What is Data science really? We set out to guide you as to what this means! Our white papers are an indispensable guide and in 2019 we published the critically-acclaimed “The Evolution of Clinical Data Management to Clinical Data Science”. If you haven’t read it yet, we suggest you do – you can access it here.

Partnership

We offer a sincere thank you to all our Partners!

SCDM encourages industry dialogue though partnerships in Education, Delivery of Innovative content, and many more initiatives. Our achievements are the production of unwavering commitment and support of our partners and in 2019 we were lucky enough to have 8 Corporate partners.

Our partnership program provides  leading companies with significant, consistent and exclusive opportunities to gain access and exposure to a global network of clinical data managers and key opinion leaders. Click here and find out more!

Leveraging the strength of our partners, we were able to launch the e-Source Implementation Taskforce this year.

This is truly a collaborative initiative, bringing together academia and biopharmaceutical companies, along with EHR vendors, EDC vendors, and technology providers. The Taskforce will establish agreed-upon methods of clinical trial data transfer, define best practices that can be scaled up across the clinical research enterprise, and consistently share progress with the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) Health Information Technology (IT) Board, and other regulatory authorities. LOOKING FORWARD TO AN EXCITING 2020

2020 will be a very special year for SCDM as we ramp up our goal to be the trusted global leader and authority on clinical data science. Under the guidance of our new Chair, Michael Goedde, we will continue building and integrating world-class Thought Leadership, Education and Advocacy. Keep a look out for more details on how we are going to make sure that 2020 becomes our best year ever!
